Field Trips to the Museum

We believe that some of the most important learning can happen outside the classroom. Book a field trip with us to enhance your students' learning experiences. Choose a deluxe or classic field trip and enjoy two hours of free play and self-guided Museum exploration!

Scheduling

Making a field trip reservation starts by choosing whether you'd like a Classic Field Trip or a Deluxe Field Trip. From there, you'll submit a request form on our website that is sent to our team.

 

Reservation requests must be made as far in advance as possible, and no less than 2 weeks in advance. We are unable to accommodate reservation requests less than 2 weeks in advance.

Labor Day through Memorial Day: 

Groups larger than 50 must be booked on Mondays when we are closed to the public. 

Memorial Day through Labor Day:

We are not able to book groups larger than 30 due to camps, programs, and higher volume.

Pricing

Classic: $7 per child

Deluxe: $8.50 per child

Deluxe (Owl Pellets & Geodes): $9.50 per child​

 

Chaperones that fulfill our requirements (1:5) are FREE. Additional chaperones are welcome but they are $7 each.

Requirements

There is a 15 child minimum for field trips.

There must be one chaperone per five children (there will be a fee for missing chaperone on day of the visit). 

If you would like to bring a packed lunch, there is a $30 flat fee added to the final total. 

Classic Field Trip

$7 per child

The Classic Field Trip package includes a two hour, self guided, educational play experience in the Museum.

Deluxe Field Trip

$8.50 - $9.50 per child

The Deluxe Field Trip package includes a two hour, self guided, educational play experience in the Museum and a 20-minute educational program led by Museum Educators. The program is conducted in small groups during the allotted two hours. 

All Deluxe options are adaptable to fit student needs. Please let us know how we can best support your group on the Field Trip request form.

Deluxe Field Trip educational Programs

Owl Pellets

$9.50 per child

In this lesson, future scientists will learn the key terms in relation to the Barred Owl, which is native to southeastern NC. Children will then dissect an owl pellet in order to determine what animal was included in its diet by using a bone sorting guide.

Go, Slow, Woah

In this lesson, children will discuss the food groups and examples of food that belongs in that specific group. Children will also learn about go, slow, and whoa foods.

Airzooka

What is air made of? How do things move? Students will learn the properties of air and about pushes and pulls. Students will then create their own mini Airzooka to take home.

Science of Slime

States of Matter: Is it a liquid? Is it a solid? No: It’s BOTH! Little learners will research and experiment with the three states of matter and create their own slime, a non-newtonian fluid, to take home!

Lima Beans in a bag

In this lesson, future botanists will explore what essential things plants need to survive. Plant your own lima beans and watch it grow in the classroom or at home.

Color mixing

In this lesson, children will identify basic colors. Children will make predictions and observations, connecting art with science.

Geodes

$9.50 per child

In this lesson, students will excavate and take home their own geode.
